DeliverLean to hire 150 after securing contract to deliver meals to seniors

DeliverLean has been tapped to bring meals to seniors as nearly all gathering places close to the public in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Hollywood-based company secured a purchase order from Miami-Dade County to deliver meals to residents age 6o or older after officials ordered daytime activity centers for able-bodied seniors to dose. Its first meal delivery from the contract was made Monday.

“We’re producing tens of thousands of meals a day and delivering thousands to individuals homes every day,” DeliverLean CEO Scott Harris said. “Before, we only had one shift. Now we’re running three.”

To keep up with added demand, the company plans to add 15o full- and part-time workers, Harris said. Positions range from entry-level to C-Suite, including dish washers, a sanitation crew, sous chefs, executive chefs, logistics workers, warehouse staff and delivery drivers. The company is also seeking to fill the previously open positions of COO and CFO.

Scott did not specify the pay ranges for any of the positions.

DeliverLean is hiring at a time when more than 1.2 million hospitality workers across Florida are facing layoffs. Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered bars and nightclubs to shut down operations across the state to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. As similar orders for restaurants were announced, eateries across South Florida began cutting jobs.

Laid-off workers from the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel, Boca Beach Club, the Diplomat Hotel, Groot Hospitality’s restaurants including Papi Steak and Komodo have applied to fill DeliverLean’s new positions, Harris said. The company is accepting applications at hr@deliverlean.com.

DeliverLean isn’t the only South Florida company that’s hiring. While the hospitality and brick-and-mortar retail sectors are facing massive downtums in business, health care firms, for instance, are in an upswing. There remains a shortage of health care workers for hospitals, even as health systems halt all non-emergency procedures.
